Written by Alexander Michael Robotham - Audio book performed by Simon Prebble - Unabridged Fiction - 10 COMPACT DISCS - 11.5 hours

Publisher, Recorded Books (February 2005)

Acclaimed author Michael Robotham conquered international best-seller lists with this electrifying thriller. After a woman is brutally slain, investigators bring psychiatrist Joe O’Loughlin in for expert consultation. Joe is shocked to discover the dead woman is a former patient of his who cried rape when he rebuffed her sexual advances. Citing doctor/patient confidentiality, Joe hides this information. But the truth emerges, and suddenly he is the prime suspect.

About the Author: Michael Robotham has ghostwritten numerous biographies, which together have sold more than two million copies. He is a former investigative journalist whose first novel, Suspect, was translated into 12 languages. The BBC is also planning a miniseries adaptation. Robotham lives in Sydney, Australia, with his wife and three daughters.

About the Performer: Simon Prebble’s career spans an impressive range of acting experience. Right from the beginning, his life was dramatic: he was born in Croydon, England, in the middle of the Second World War. From his childhood, he has vivid memories of the London bombings and his own little Mickey Mouse gas mask. Born into a family of artists and writers, Simon received his early training at the Guild Hall School of Music and Drama in London.

Simon’s experience and talent have enabled him to build a successful performing career in Great Britain and America. He has worked with some of the world’s greatest actors and has played roles in many classic stage productions. For example, he has appeared with Ian McKellan in Hamlet. On television, he has appeared in a variety of programs, from Shakespeare to soap opera. He completed a year-long role on As the World Turns. His screen appearances include parts in American films with actors like Lauren Bacall and Lloyd Bridges.

He has also made his mark in other performing mediums. On British radio, he has been an anchor, newscaster, announcer, talk show host, and writer. And he has performed thousands of voice-overs and commercials.

Simon Prebble maintains a full schedule. In the Great Books series on the discovery channel, he has appeared in several roles from Charles Dickens’ novels. He was also in a PBS series entitled Liberty.

In addition to his busy life as an actor, Simon Prebble spends considerable hours behind the Recorded Books’ microphone. Listeners relish Simon’s crisp performances on the Dick Francis books, as the suave Mamur Zapt in Michael Pearce’s Cairo mysteries, and in the droll Charles Paris mystery series.

How does he feel about his narrations? He regards this work as “artistic gold” where he can truly “practice the actor’s craft.” He feels that this is especially true of Recorded Books unabridged audiobooks. “In abridged books, often there’s no writing left, just stories. Abridgement is a rare art, but sometimes it becomes surgery instead. It’s hard to find a good abridgement.” Fortunately, in each of Simon Prebbles’ outstanding narrations for Recorded Books, you and your patrons can be sure that you are hearing every word of the original book.
