" ... the conclusion is highly satisfying and accomplished in its deference to readers' imaginations." —Publishers Weekly

"This touching story is well written and avoids many of the clichés usually found in fiction dealing with faith....Walker's homespun style fits her quirky, appealing characters....this gem of a book deserves a wide audience." —VOYA

"Walker's quirky characters are imbued with the spiritual resolve they need to overcome their sorrow and to get on with life. Amelia does not forget her father, but learns to remember and celebrate their relationship in a new and healthy way." —School Library Journal

“Accidents! Who did I think I was kidding? Had I really said that I didn’t believe in anything but accidents? Like I believed Daddy’s crash was just some freaky accident that didn’t have a thing to do with me? I caused it. I did it. And nothing was ever going to change that, and Daddy was never going to come back. Not in real life, and not because some fat old ex-convict dreamed him up.” —from the book

Believing in miracles can be hard work. Twelve-year-old Amelia Forrest has a lot to pray for: improving her bad grades, fixing her strained relationship with her mama, and most importantly, dealing with her guilt over the role she played in her daddy’s death.

But since Daddy died, Amelia has stopped believing in anything. Not prayer. Not miracles. And certainly not the crackpot visions of an ex-convict named Brother Mustard Seed who claims to have contact with her daddy.

Brother Mustard Seed is determined to bring a little faith back into Amelia’s life—no matter how hard she tries to stop him. And when the strange little man moves in with her and her mama, Amelia realized her life will never be the same again.
