That was the only way a theatre could hold an audience. The 15 minute shows had on-going story lines that took place over two or three weeks and frequently cliff-hanger endings...Newspapers published daily accounts when Amos' trial for murder was being broadcast. When Andy was ready to finally say "I do,” as the minister was about to pronounce him man and wife, listeners heard a shot and Andy fell to the floor. The press gave it major coverage. What took place on Amos 'n' Andy was part of people's daily conversation and part of their lives.
