List Written by Agatha Christie - Audio book performed by Joan Hickson - Abridged Fiction - 2 CASSETTES Publisher, Durkin Hayes Audio (1987) The Tuesday Club is formed when Raymond West, a young writer, is entertaining friends and they decide that each should tell a story of a mystery, without revealing the answer, so that the others can try to guess the outcome. It is felt that with their combined skills and variety of individual experience, they will be able to solve the problems presented. Raymond’s contribution is his rich writer’s imagination, while Joyce Lempriere sees things through the eyes of a woman as well as an artist. Dr. Pender, the clergyman, claims to know the hidden side of human character. Mr. Petherick, a lawyer, is only interested in the logical approach to the mysteries, whereas Sir Henry Clithering, ex-commissioner of Scotland Yard, is obviously skilled at crime solving generally. And then there is Raymond's Aunt Jane - a gentle lady with snowy hair and pale blue eyes. Miss Marple joins in to make the sixth member of the club: "I'm afraid I am not very clever myself," she claims, "but living all these years in St. Mary Mead does give one an insight into human nature!" Joan Hickson, who plays the role of Miss Marple in the BBC television series based on the works of Agatha Christie, reads five stories posing widely ranging problems for the Tuesday Club. |
