Written & narrated by Beth Shaw - Nonfiction - Original Audio Program - 1 CASSETTE - 1 hour

Publisher, Listen & Live Audio (June 1999)

Up and at 'em, couch potatoes! Have we got a perfect audio exercise program for you! And you lean-mean-aerobics-machines, you'll be pleased as well.

This dynamic one-hour program, Yoga Stretch For Fitness, was designed by yoga expert, Beth Shaw, for exercise enthusiasts of all ages and body types as an effective way to tone and strengthen muscles, and manage stress. Couldn't we all use a little bit of that?

I know what you're asking: How can I possibly follow an exercise audio CASSETTE? Good question. . . but we have the answer. Beth believes the true benefits of yoga can only be derived through proper concentration and "connection" to your body. Instead, of fumbling with a VCR remote and needing to look up at a television screen (which surely can put your posture and positioning out of whack), you only need to listen for Beth's guidance. And just in case, she's even had us put figurines on the box!

And, if we haven't made this audio CASSETTE program fantastic enough, the music tracks which accompany Beth's vocal directions are provided by Steven Halpern, a world-renowned New Age musician.

Is this quality, or what? Read what the critics say!

About the Narrator: Beth Shaw is a certified Yoga Instructor and Integrative Yoga Therapist, and her award-winning television show, YogaFit, is seen weekly throughout Los Angeles and New York. Beth also teaches Toga and Stress Management at a number of hospitals and health clubs in the Southern California area.

REVIEWS:

Shape Magazine, August 1995

Yoga On The Road: If you're a yoga enthusiast who wants to take it with you--listen up: The new audio CASSETTE Yoga Stretch for Fitness (Listen & Live Audio) allows you to work out just about anywhere and helps you focus on moves without the distraction of trying to copy an instructor. Beth Shaw, host of YogaFit, a yoga program shown on Los Angeles and Manhattan cable TV stations, conducts the hour long tape, which is most suitable for people familiar with yoga, since Shaw's instruction is at times incomplete. The music and relaxation segments are simple and soothing.

Library Journal, July 1995

The benefits of yoga as a form of exercise are numerous: it can help promote flexibility, reduce stress, and build muscle strength. Initiates will do well to remember, as instructor Shaw states, that yoga "is a process" and "there is no such thing as an end result." The first 30 minutes consist of stretching movements to warm up the spine. The second half concentrates on much more subtle exercises, with particular emphasis on the abdominal area. Simple line drawings demonstrate correct body position, but the novice will likely need more illustrations. Shaw's well-modulated voice coupled with appropriate New Age background music certainly creates a conducive atmosphere. A refreshing change of pace and a good introduction to a time-honored method of philosophy; recommended for most health and exercise collections.

Awareness Magazine, May/June 1995

Beth's voice is healing, with positive affirming. Expanding on the listener's awareness of yoga as not just physical but emotional, psychological and of course spiritual as well. The music, performed by Steven Halpern, stands on its own merit; weaving gracefully around Beth's gentle voice. The sequence flowed. Seemingly Hatha-based, some of the postures were suggestive of a Kundalini (Spirit Rising) energy. This tape is gentle enough for beginners, yet I found it worthy for intermediate practitioners. It contains instruction figurines on the CASSETTE box, a feature unconditionally helpful.

Maui'ana Magazine, September, 1995

The sixty minute tape goes quickly with the first thirty minute side devoted to larger muscle groups and the second half focusing on smaller ones. The program is designed so that each side could be a complete workout if you so desire. I found the music by Steven Halpern to be as relaxing and soothing as Beth's voice. She gently guides you through the different poses giving positive reinforcement without being overly pushy. The whole tape flowed smoothly with a good pace which was easy to understand. Unlike the yoga video tapes I have collecting dust in my video pile, Yoga Stretch for Fitness will be in my tape deck again soon.
