Oliver Twist is set in the seediest areas of low-life London in the 19th Century and features some of Dickens' most colorful characters including: the evil and conniving Fagin, the ruthless Bill Sikes, the self-important Mr. Bumble, Nancy the prostitute with the heart of gold, the grotesque Artful Dodger and of course the innocent Oliver Twist. It is also one of Dickens' most sinister stories complete with a most graphic account of a murder. The novel has spawned the 1948 David Lean film and was immortalized by the highly successful Lionel Bart musical, Oliver.
