"If you liked The Perfect Storm, you will be blown away by Typhoon, Conrad's classic tale." --David Hagberg, author of White House

"Conrad is quite simply the master of all who try to reflect the world of the sea in the mirror of the written word ... No one has [penned] more vividly the courage, the skill, the dreams, and terrors of those who set out upon the waters. He is the Captain." --David Poyer, author of The Med

A classic novel amazingly similar to The Perfect Storm.

The unimaginative and imperturbable Captain MacWhirr pilots his steamer Nan-Shan through a typhoon of such violence that even he is moved to doubt the possibility of survival. To avoid trouble between decks, he sends his appalled chief mate Mr. Jukes down to confiscate the money of his 200 Chinese passengers. After the ship is safe and the money redistributed, Jukes concludes that MacWhirr "got out of it very well for a stupid man." In fact, the story is a deep affirmation of conservative virtues.

About the Author: Joseph Conrad (originally Jozef Teodor Konrad Korzeniowski) was born in the Ukraine in 1857. Because of his passion for going to sea, Conrad traveled to Marseilles, where he served in French merchant vessels before joining a British ship in 1878. He obtained British nationality as well as his Master's certificate in the British Merchant Service in 1886.

In 1894 Conrad published his first novel, Almayer's Folly. After marrying a year later, he settled in Kent and, within fifteen years, Conrad published many of his best-known works including Youth, Heart of Darkness, Lord Jim, Typhoon, Nostromo, The Secret Agent and Under Western Eyes. He continued to write until his death in 1924.

About the Author: Roger Allam performs on the British stage and is an Associate Artist of the Royal Shakespeare Company. His television work includes several series in England such as Heartbeat, Midsomer Murders, and Inspector Morse. His voice is regularly heard on BBC Radio 4.
