"Pilcher is one of the best current practitioners of literate commercial fiction." --Publishers Weekly

"Carey brings life and spirit to the story, easily portraying its colorful characters with minimal vocal acrobatics. Mischief, fear, frustration, fun and sadness shine through the story... Carey's skill and Pilcher's plot blend beautifully here." --AudioFile

Selina Bruce has yearned for knowledge of her father during her entire young life, but the grandmother who raised her, following the death of her mother, refuses to answer questions about him. After Selina unexpectedly finds a photograph that provides the first good clue to her father's real identity, she impulsively leaves her lawyer fiancé‚ in London and flies off to an exotic island near the coast of Spain to further her search. There she finds surprising truths about herself and the man she plans to marry.

Rosamunde Pilcher began her professional writing career while a teenager, with the submission of some short stories to women's magazines. She wrote a number of light romance novels under the pseudonym of Jane Fraser, beginning in 1949, before turning to deeper, more complex historical novels and family chronicles, most notably The Shell Seekers. That book brought her bestseller status in the UK and in the United States, and sold over 3.5 million copies. According to Scottish book reviewer and author Andrew Crumey, "Rosamunde Pilcher's huge success has made her Scotland's highest-earning resident, with an annual income of £4.4 million."

About the Performer: Jan Carey has acted in theater, film, and television. Her film credits include A Man for All Seasons and The Whistle Blower.
