"I have come to believe that Trollope's novels achieve a priceless extra stature in Timothy West's readings." --Gramophone Magazine

"Listening to West's reading of the unabridged Barchester Towers is like hearing an entire cast of actors, such is his command of the text and his skill in delivering it." --The Good Book Guide

"Timothy West reads the whole of the Barchester series so brilliantly that one feels one is listening to the author himself." --Miriam Gross of the Sunday Telegraph (of London)

This classic is considered the funniest in his Barchester Chronicles series. Trollope combines humor with robust social commentary as he seizes on the great comic potential of the predicament of the Church of England in mid-Victorian society. His tale is enriched by some of the most memorable characters ever created: the formidable Mrs. Proudie, the oily Obadiah Slope, and the benevolent Mr. Harding.

Anthony Trollope (1815-1882) was born in London, England. His first novel in the Barchester series, The Warden, appeared in 1855, and was followed by such successful books as Barchester Towers (1857) and Framley Parsonage (1861).

Timothy West (born in 1934) is one of the best known English actors. He has performed on the London stage and with the Royal Shakespeare Company. His British television appearances include Edward VII and Hard Times. His films include Cry Freedom (1986) and Consuming Passions (1987). In 1984, he was awarded the CBE for his services to the theater.
