About the Author: Charlotte Brontė (1816-1855), born in Yorkshire, was the sister of Emily and Anne. The three sisters, Emily, Charlotte, and Anne, self-published a collection of poems in 1846; Charlotte achieved popular success with Jane Eyre, published the following year. Emily died in 1848, and Anne in 1849. In 1854, Charlotte married Arthur Bell Nichols and she died the following year.
