When Wolfe receives a fer-de-lance (a deadly snake), Archie knows he's getting very close to solving two murders. The symbiotic relationship of Wolfe and Goodwin is an entertaining facet of this mystery.

Rex Stout (1886-1975) is dubbed the Grand Old Man of American Crime Fiction. During his lifetime, he published 72 Nero Wolfe mysteries; ten years after his death, a 73rd Nero Wolfe was discovered and published.
