A Prairie Home Companion is broadcast every week on 550 public radio stations, and is heard abroad on America One and the Armed Forces Networks in Europe and the Far East. Approaching its 30th season, the show's first broadcast from Macalester College in St. Paul on July 6, 1974, has joined the original cast recording of Oklahoma! and the Beatles' Sergeant Pepper's Lonely Hearts Club Band album, among others, in the Library of Congress' registry of historic sound.
