Children of the Frost is a collection of stories, first published in 1902, dealing with Indian themes—the Indians of the frozen Northland that London was familiar with from his travels to that region during the gold rush. The book drew immediate praise. Its immense popularity was not expected because London described Indians as noble people—not savages—a treatment that was unorthodox for the period.
