"Subtle and discursive in the classic Sayers manner, Thrones, Dominations is pure pleasure." --Wall Street Journal This Sayers' mystery, unfinished at the time of her death, explores Lord Peter Wimsey and Harriet Vane's relationship as a married couple, while solving yet another murder mystery. Acclaimed author Jill Paton Walsh completes Sayers' manuscript in Sayers' voice. Lord Peter Wimsey and his wife Harriet Vane have returned from their honeymoon and are settling into their life together in 1930s London. But then murder strikes close to home when a woman in their own social circle is murdered. As Lord Peter and Harriet are drawn into solving the crime, they also grapple with issues surrounding their own marriage and family life. Dorothy Leigh Sayers (1893-1957) was born in Oxford, England. She was one of the first women to graduate from Oxford University, in 1915, with class honors in modern languages. She published her first novel, Whose Body? in 1923, introducing aristocratic sleuth Lord Peter Wimsey. During the last twenty years of her life, she wrote only scholarly works and spiritual introspection. Despite her scholarship, she is best known as "the Doyenne of the Golden Age of the Mystery." Her book Strong Poison, introduced Harriet Vane. Jill Paton Walsh, a British novelist born in 1937, is best known for her children's and young adult books, for which she has won several awards. She has also written many novels for adults and was short-listed for the Booker Prize in 1994. Ian Carmichael is a veteran British actor. His lengthy career includes several portrayals of Lord Peter Wimsey for BBC Television, as well as appearances in other TV series, stage productions, and feature films. |
